India’s G&J exports drop 1.67% in June
India’s gem and jewellery exports in June 2015 dipped 1.67 percent (on y-o-o-y basis), valuing US$ 2,912.85 million, reports say. The same was attributed to weak global demand for jewellery.
Cut and polished diamond exports dropped 2.22 percent (on y-o-y basis) to US$ 1,853.99 million, and dipped 6.40 percent in volume terms to 2.63 million carats.
Gold jewellery (plain and studded) exports declined 24.10 percent to US$ 601.53 million, while exports of coloured gemstones rose to US$ 56.15 million from US$ 41.17 million in June 2014.
Imports of cut and polished diamonds decreased 63.77 percent (on y-o-o-y basis) to US$ 239.93 million in June 2015. Rough diamond import also dipped by 10.73 percent to US$ 1,509.22 million. The volume of rough diamonds imported stood at 12.89 million carats dipping 4.8 percent, reports say.
