Jewelers of America Announces Jewelry Design Nominees for 2016 GEM Awards

Jewelers of America announced three contenders for the jewelry design category of its annual GEM Awards: Caroline Scheufele, copresident and artistic director of Chopard; Sevan Bicakci of Sevan Bicakci; and Temple St. Clair of the eponymous design firm.

Jewelry design is one of four categories that comprise the annual awards, which aim to recognize those whose “work raises the visibility and status of fine jewelry and watches,” according to JA. Winners will be announced at the GEM Awards ceremony on Jan. 8 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

Each nominee is deserving of accolades. Under Scheufele’s direction, Chopard introduced the Happy Diamonds line in 1985, thus helping the luxury jewelry house to stay competitive in high jewelry arena. Istanbul-based Sevan Bicakci unveiled his first collection of one-of-a-kind intaglio-carved creations in 2002, stunning the jewelry world with his attention to detail and remarkable artistic abilities. Meanwhile, Temple St. Clair, a model–turned–jewelry designer debuted her iconic gold jewels—complete with rock crystal amulets and granulation—in 1986.
