KP Civil Society wants Zimbabwe Govt to list new consolidated diamond mining co
In a significant move, Shamiso Mtisi, Kimberley Process Civil Society Coalition in Zimbabwe coordinator, has called on the Zimbabwe government to consider registering the new consolidated diamond mining company that it intends to form on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. He, however, pointed out that it would require the government to dilute its stake, as regulations prohibit government from having an over 50% stake in any listed company.
It may be recalled that the Zimbabwe government has already begun a process of consolidating all the private mining companies into a single entity. Listing this new company will attract potential investors, plug leakages and promote transparency and accountability, Mtisi is reported to have said.
